Austrian Market

Biomethane is a flexible energy carrier which can be used for different application purposes, e.g. renewable electricity, renewable gas for heating and cooling and as sustainable biofuel in the transport sector. Due to national and EU legal frameworks, different organisations in Austria have been entrusted with the tasks of registering the energy amounts from biomethane for corresponding marketing pathways. To prevent double counting of energy quantities, cooperation agreements between the existing registry systems for relevant information and data exchange are necessary. AGCS pro-actively enters into bilateral cooperation agreements with the aim of providing Austrian market participants with simple, secure and transparent business processes.

The Renewables Expansion Act (EAG, Erneuerbaren-Ausbau-Gesetzespaket) requires the three Austrian registry operators (GO database of E-Control, AGCS Biomethan Register Austria, elNa Biofuel Registry) to enter into cooperation to "ensure proper processing of data transfers in order to exclude double counting", as the legal text from § 81 (8) translates.
