Biomethane Plant Operators
Participation in the registry is voluntary for biomethane plant operators. AGCS issues certificates for energy quantities from biomethane fed into the grid, deducting fossil additives (propane). These certificates may be used by biomethane producers to market the renewable (and sustainable) value of their renewable gas product.
The Biomethan Register Austria does not intervene in existing contractual relationships. Bilateral contractual relationships between biomethane plant operators and biomethane consumers (gas suppliers,...) are not recorded in the Biomethan Register Austria. It is up to the contracting parties to organise or maintain their contractual relationship on the basis of the certificates issued.
Variants of the marketability of the biomethane:
- The certificate and the physical gas are marketed together
- The certificate is marketed separately from the physical biomethane flow to a third party
In the first case, the biomethane price will be charged. In the second case, the physical gas and the certificate will be sold separately at a market price (difference biomethane price market price gas).
